Senior Moments...Four Outstanding Red Raiders Finished their Indoor Prep-Careers at the Armory
Armory, NYC - Senior John Martinez led the Red Raiders with two All-American nominations at the 2005 National Scholastic Indoor Championships. The senior placed fifth in the 2 mile run and teamed with Magli Martinez, Joe Grimm and Carlos Jamieson on the Raiders' fifth place distance medley relay team. For his effort, Jamieson earned his fourth All-American honor, for Magli Martinez and Grimm it was their first such award. Senior Rob Silva completed his indoor season with an impressive seventh place showing. results continued

Nine is Fine, But Ten?!...It was an impossible task keeping the Raiders off of the Awards Podium
The Carrier Dome, Syracuse, NY - Hostomsky, Sinclair, Silberstein, Caraher, Stephens, Ossman, Dall, and Reyes are now joined by Jamieson and Martinez. The ninth and tenth Red Raider track and field champions were named at the 2005 NYSPHSAA Indoor Track and Field Championships held in the Carrier Dome on the campus of Syracuse University. As fitting as the friendship they share as teammates, John Martinez and Carlos Jamieson won two state titles for the first time at the same state meet for North Rockland. For Martinez and Jamieson it was their first state championship in their outstanding, young careers. Martinez, who was the race favorite in the seeds, stayed patient for much of the race, allowing Steve Murdock of Saratoga Springs the lead late in the race. Martinez moved with 600m to go in the 3200m race to win in 9:19.09. Jamieson, who was seeded third coming into the 1600m run, hung on the shoulder of three different leaders while they exchanged moves throughout the first 1200m. Jamieson who made his move with 400m to go was passed in the final 100m by Northport's Kevin Tshirhart and responded by passing him back in the final 30m to win in 4:19.61. Robert Silva posted an impressive performance for North Rockland as well. Silva placed second in the 55m high hurdles, with one personal best after the other in the trials, semis and finals of the event. The senior posted an amazing, career best meet which saw him miss first place by three hundredths of a second in the final. Terrell Gissendanner of Edison Tech won the race in 7.62 to Silva's personal best of 7.65. The 4x8 relay of Joe Grimm, Jamieson, Magli Martinez, and Martinez ran 8:21.98 to place 8th in the meet and earned a 6th place medal in the public school division. results continued

3/02/05 Distance Medley Sets New County Record, Current US#2 Time Raider Team Breaks Previous School and County Record with 10:17.04 Effort
Armory, NYC - The distance medley relay team of Carlos Jamieson, Magli Martinez, Jospeh Grimm, and John Martinez set a new school and county record of 10:17.04 at the 2005 Eastern States Championship held at the Armory in New York City. The previous school and county record of 10:22.2(y) set back in 1979 by North Rockland represents the third school record broken this season. North Rockland was second in the race to Colt's Neck of New Jersey (10:15.80). The two times currently stand as the top two times run in the nation during the indoor season thus far. results continued

Gillis Field House, USMA - The North Rockland Red Raiders qualified five athletes for the 2005 NYSPHSAA indoor track and field championships held at the Carrier Dome on the campus of Syracuse University. Of the five, three athletes qualified as individuals. Seniors Carlos Jamieson (1600m), John Martinez (3200m) and Robert Silva (55HH) each won their respective events in the Section One state qualifier to earn individual spots in next week's final. The 4x8 relay of junior Joseph Grimm, senior Magli Martinez, Jamieson and Martinez won the 3200m race in 8:06 to claim North Rockland's first relay spot in the state finals since the 1997-98 season. results continued

Men in Red...These Raiders Claimed North Rockland's Eleventh Straight Section One Class A Title
Gillis Field House, USMA - The North Rockland boys track and field team won the Section One Class A team championship with a commanding performance on the campus of the United States Military Academy. The Red Raiders were led by senior John Martinez who led the charge in the distance events claiming wins the 3200m and 1600m runs. Seniors Magli Martinez and Rob Silva scored big with second place efforts in the triple jump and 55m hurdles. Junior Joe Grimm motivated the Raiders with three scoring efforts in the 3200m, 1600m and 4x8 relay. The team's championship is their fourth straight dating back to the 2001-02 indoor season and the program's eleventh straight title counting cross country and outdoor track. results continued
2/23/05 North Rockland Distance Runners Name Colleges Martinez Commits to N.C. State; Jamieson to American Remaining Distance Runners Remain Undecided; Friedman, Schlesinger Await Word
Two of four North Rockland senior distance runners announced their college selections and will compete for two of the nation's top distance programs in the fall of 2005. Senior John Martinez has committed to North Carolina State University in Raleigh-Durham, N.C. and will run for Wolf Pack coach Rollie Geiger. Teammate Carlos Jamieson made it official when he chose American University in Washington, D.C., running for Eagle's coach Matt Centrowitz. Both Centrowitz and Geiger are legendary names in American distance running and synonymous with success. Most recently, both coaches led their respective teams to fine showings at the 2004 NCAA cross country championships. The two remaining seniors, Ryan Friedman and Jeffrey Schlesinger, have yet to announce their choices. Friedman is considering Kutztown University in Pennsylvania, while Schlesinger has narrowed his choice to Ithaca and Quinnipiac amongst others.
2/12/05 Raider Boys Outlast Mounties For Rockland's Championship County Meet Decided By One Point as NR beats Suffern 90-89; Team Steps Up
Red Sea...Events like the 55m hurdles and athletes like Rob Silva kept the county title home in NR.
Gillis Field House, USMA - The North Rockland boys track and field team won their fourth straight Rockland county title as the Raiders held off the Mounties of Suffern in a meet-long battle. The Raiders were given huge lifts with multiple point scoring efforts in the 3200m run, 55mHH and1600m run, but the county championship was gained by the resilient efforts of individuals. Trailing late in the meet, seniors Rob Silva and Magli Martinez fought for hard earned points. Silva placed second in the pole vault, while Martinez scored valuable fourth place points in the triple jump giving the boys of Bricktown the slightest of edges going into the relays. County champions included Carlos Jamieson (3200m), John Martinez (1600m), and Rob Silva (55mHH). results continued
2/07/05 Distance Medley Relay Runs 6th Fastest County Time Team Closing in on School, County Record; Silva 5th in HH at Varsity Classic
Armory, NYC - North Rockland's distance medley relay team of Carlos Jamieson, Magli Martinez, Joe Grimm, and John Martinez ran 10:28.2 good enough for third place at the 2005 Varsity Classic held at the NYC Armory. The team's time ranks them 6th on the Rockland county all-time list behind the Raider DMR (Sinclair, Mayer, Rosenberger, and Hostomsky) of 1979 who are still currently county record holders in the event in 10:22.2. Other scorers for North Rockland included Rob Silva who placed 5th in the 55mHH in a time of 7.8. results continued
2/05/05 Raider Milers Place 7-8 At Millrose Games
Madison Square Garden, NYC - Seniors John Martinez and Carlos Jamieson were well within striking distance of the lead with less than a half mile to go, but faltered late against tough competition in the high school mile at the 2005 Millrose Games. Martinez ran 4:28.45 to place 7th while teammate Jamieson ran 4:37.07 for 8th. Chris Barnicle of Newton, Mass won the eight man race in a time of 4:17.01.
2/05/05 Cross Country Letter Winners; Scholar-Athletes Named
North Rockland officially announced its yearly varsity letter winners for the fall season of 2004. Letter awards were granted to 9 runners at the end of the season as is custom. Ryan Friedman, Carlos Jamieson, John Martinez, Jeff Schlesinger, Joseph Grimm, Muhammad Qaisar, Chris DeJesus, Anthony Savoia, and Robert Quinlan earned letter awards. Also announced were the winners of the NYSPHSAA academic team award for North Rockland in boys cross country for the fall of 2004. Members of the team are Chris DeJesus, Colin Galvin, Carlos Jamieson, John Martinez, Chris Tantillo, David Figueroa, Jeff Schlesinger, Michael Baptiste, Edwin Santos, Muhammad Qaisar and Sean Menezes. The team's composite grade point average for the seaon was 92.891.

Tough Stuff...Many Raiders Fought to Win the Boys 2004-05 League 1C Championship
RCC, Eugene Levy Field House - The 2004-05 version on the boys League 1C championship saw another page written in the competitive history of the North Rockland and Suffern track and field programs. The Red Raiders overcame the Mounties 139-130 in a meet that saw equally dominating performances by both teams in different events. Leading the Raiders were the three event winners John Martinez (1000m, 1600m, 4x8) and Carlos Jamieson (3200m, 600m, 4x8) and two event winner Magli Martinez (triple jump, 4x2). Individual winners included Norman Thompson (4x2), Shamar Streets (4x2), Ahmed Jeffrey (4x2), Ryan Friedman (4x8) and Jeff Schlesinger (4x8). results continued
1/17/05 Silva Shines in High Hurdles at the Suffern Invitational Soph Sanon Continues Solid Jumping with Frosh/Soph Triple Jump Win
RCC, Eugene Levy Field House - Red Raider senior Rob Silva won the varsity division of the high hurdles at the 2005 Suffern Invitational in a time of 7.8 seconds. Silva currently leads all Section One hurdlers with a 7.93 FAT time run at this year's Hispanic Games. Sophomore Gladimir Sanon won the frosh/soph division of the meet in the triple jump in a distance of 37-11.00. The jump marks Sanon's personal best in the event thus far. results continued

Armory, NYC - At the 2004 Hispanic Games seniors John Martinez and Carlos Jamieson delivered strong opening season marks in the invitational one mile run. Martinez and Jamieson both broke the previous North Rockland school record held by Todd Sinclair (NR '80) of 4:20.2 set back in 1980. Martinez ran 4:15.64 placing second in the event whose winner is given an automatic berth in the Millrose high school mile. Jamieson placed fourth running 4:18.12. Winner Bryan Scotland of St. Benedict's of New Jersey ran 4:14.31. All times rank currently among the top ten run in the United States this year. results continued

1/07/05 Galvin, Figueroa Lift Raiders to Frosh/Soph 4x8 Title Newcomers Martinez and Mendez Deliver Strong 4x8 Legs in Win
RCC, Eugene Levy Field House - Red Raider sophomore Colin Galvin gave the Raider pups a gutsy lead off leg that turned into a victory in the 4x800m relay at the Section One Frosh/Soph Championships. Galvin ran a personal best relay split of 2:18 to give the Raiders opening momentum. Second leg and newbie Manny Martinez running his first 800m, split 2:22 to keep the lead. Sophomore David Figueroa broke the race open for good splitting another personal relay best of 2:18. Another newcomer, Christian Mendez closed the door on the twenty-plus school field anchoring the team in 2:22. results continued.
1/02/05 Jamieson Begins 2005 with Win at West Point Invite
Gillis Field House, USMA - Red Raider Carlos Jamieson posted North Rockland's lone victory at the 2005 West Point Invitational. The senior won the 800m run in 2:00.92. The time currently stands as Jamieson's personal indoor best in the open 800m. The Red Raiders also saw a top ten performance in the meet from senior Magli Martinez, who placed eighth in the 400m dash in 54.04. results continued
12/27/04 Jamieson Opens Season at Holiday Festival
RCC, Eugene Levy Field House - North Rockland senior Carlos Jamieson opened his 2004-05 track and field season with a strong second place showing in the 1000y. The Garnerville native clocked an 2:19.8, a shade behind Nyack's Dan Wallace-Periac 2:19.4. The Red Raiders 3200m relay was also second running 8:43.9.
