Cicero - North Syracuse, NY - Seniors Chris Carrington, Ryan Lacossade and Dasheen Ellis are ending their senior year in strong fashion. The trio all made sure they came home with state championship hardware from the 2009 NYSPHSAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships held on the campus of Cicero - North Syracuse High School. Carrington placed second in the 1600m which saw the fastest time in meet history. Carrington ran an impressive 4:11.97 to beat all but one finisher, Alex Hatz of Fayetteville-Manlius (4:06). Carrington is credited with maintaining his composure over the last quarter mile, reaching deep to power past Bobby Andrews of Shoreham Wading River HS at the finish. Just as impressive was Ryan Lacossade's consistently strong hurdling. The senior ran 14.68 in the Federation final to earn a fifth place spot. Dasheen Ellis placed 7th in the Federation final of the triple jump with an effort of 45-07. Earlier in the meet, Ellis had set a new personal best of 45-10.50 in the division one final. Bedlam... Victory Laps, Break Dancing, and a 4x8 Win: What More Could You Want in a County Championship?
Montebello, NY - If you followed the 2009 North Rockland Boys Track and Field team all season long, you could tell they wanted to win the Rockland County Championships after some disappointing team performances in track and field over the past year and a half. And if you only saw the North Rockland Boys Track and Field team at the end of the last event of the Rockland County Championships, you knew the victory meant everything to them. There is something to be said about a team that accepts and raises their team championship plaque quietly and proudly without any pomp and circumstance, yet it seemed that the yelling, screaming, chanting, parading and all the rest that came with the Raiders' 109.5 to 104 victory over Ramapo was needed: a spontaneous catharsis that purged and cleansed the team of its past failures. It is the Raiders' first county title in track and field since 2007. Because of their two distinctly different strengths, Ramapo and North Rockland never really had any moments on the track between one another involving direct point swings. Instead, the teams focused on delivering the best performances they could against whoever they were competing against. The old adage of the importance of every single point in team championships like these is certainly true and there was certainly no shortage of role players for the Red Raiders, but anyone watching the meet could see the Raiders were driven to victory by Chris Carrington. From the moment he first stepped on the track mid-meet for a school and meet record performance in the 800m (1:52.4), the Raiders saw consistent competition-pounding efforts by the George Mason bound senior. Carrington went on to win the 1600m run (4:17.2) and anchor the winning 4x8 relay with Nick Bien-Aime, Alex Andre and Kevin Lauturner in 8:06. Dasheen Ellis was the only other county champion with his efforts in the triple jump. results to come
