Re-Writing the Book...Tim Mendez, Dylan Landry, Nick Bien-Aime and Alex Andre are new North Rockland and Rockland 4x8 Record Holders

Vestal, NY - It's official! The team of Tim Mendez, Dylan Landry, Nick Bien-Aime and Alex Andre are the fastest relay combination ever in Rockland County. North Rockland now holds the Rockland County indoor and outdoor track and field record in the 4x800m relay with a legendary race at the New York State Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at Vestal High School in Vestal, NY.  The team's time broke the previous NR school record of 7:48.46 set back in 1992 and the county record of 7:47.9 set by Suffern nearly thirty years ago in 1983.  After Tim Mendez led off the race in 1:59, junior Dylan Landry ran a stellar personal best of 1:56 to bring the Raiders back into the top five. Nick Bien-Aime then took the baton and ran a controlled 55 second first quarter and finished with his strongest final quarter ever to split 1:56 bring the Raiders closer to eventual winners Liverpool (7:38) and second place Warwick Valley (7:42).  Anchor leg Alex Andre gave the Raiders their new record closing the relay in 1:52.8 after the team came through three legs in 5:51.  The relay, all juniors were third in both the New York State and Federation standings.  Junior James Naglieri (9:50.34) placed 12th overall in the 3,000m steeplechase and senior Anthony Congress completed his NR track career in the intermediate hurdles.  results continued

One Man Wolfpack...Junior James Naglieri Was the only NR Distance Runner to Score in Two Individual Running Events

Orangeburg, NY - A sectional championship meet brings out the character of a team. And while many of North Rockland's key players in their championship drive succumbed to heat, illness, and injury, the toughness of senior Anthony Congress and junior James Naglieri kept them coming back for more.  Congress and Naglieri both claimed their first outdoor sectional titles.  Congress won the intermediate hurdles in 56.2, while Naglieri won the 3,000m steeplechase in a personal best time of 9:50.1.  Naglieri ended the one year drought of an NR steeplechaser not winning the section title.  NR has won the event all but one year since 2003.  North Rockland has not pulled off the coveted triple crown since 2005.  North Rockland scored 61 points to place third behind New Rochelle (65 pts) and team champions Mt. 4x8 Relays Runs Season Best 7:54.44, 4xHH Relay Fifth at East Coast Relays

Randolph, NJ - A botched exchange between NR leadoff leg Tim Mendez and Dylan Landry that left Mendez lying flat in the zone and NR's baton looking like a crushed can of soda may very well cost the team a sub 7:50 performance, but the team's time of 7:54.44 earned the team's first sub 8 minute effort since their All-American performance at the National Scholastic Championships at the finale of the indoor season.  Nick Bien-Aime (1:59) and Alex Andre (1:55) rallied the squad to a fifth place finish and seasonal best.  The high hurdle relay of Kevin Michel-Turnier, Colton Lubazska, Andrew McBean and Anthony Congress ran 1:02.59 and also placed fifth in their relay. results continued

by Damian "Spud" Feeney, nrxc.net freshman staff writer

It was a great way to end a very long week of school and practicing. On Friday April 16, 2010 the 23rd annual Red Raider Relays began and, as always, there was a great turn out and thankfully the rain did not come. There were many impressive athletes that were there to show their talents. In the Boys' 110 meter hurdles Anthony Congress and Kevin-Michelle Turnier both made their ways into the Saturday finals placing 5th and 6th with times of 15.64 and 15.67. In the 1600 meter run, both Tim Mendez and Alex Andre put up valiant efforts and in return placed 3rd and 4th with 4:28 and 4:30.  The event to finish off such a great day for the boys was the 3200 in which Nick Hughes brought home the gold medal for North Rockland and James Naglieri took 7th.   Their times were 9:31 and 9:45.  What a great end to day One of the 23rd Annual Red Raider Relays.

Day Two - Saturday,  April 17th

by Nick Hughes, nrxc.net senior staff writer

The second day of the 2010 Red Raider Relays came with a threat of rain and poor conditions, but this did not stop the huge performances throughout the day. Vanessa Stewart of North Babylon broke her own discus meet record to take home the gold, was familiar for territory for the dominant thrower because she did the same in the shot put the day before. Shilesha Johnson was in the zone walking away with gold medals in both the open 100 and 200. Anthony Congress and the North Rockland girls SMR and 4x4 gave the Red Raider fans something to cheer about by winning their events. The boys 4x2 finished in a nail bitter with Northport edging out North Babylon at the line by one one-hundredth of a second! It’s a good thing spectators brought those cameras because they were able to capture some great moments.
