2008 RED RAIDER RELAYS
4/20/08 Ramapo, Ezemma Simply Outstanding at Red Raider Relays Reese Sets New Meet Record in the 800m; Named Outstanding Clarke Wins Pentathlon, 4x8 Relay Wins for Lady Raiders Over 3,500 Enjoy Spectacular Competition and Weather at 2008 Red Raider Relays
Speed? I am Speed...Ramapo's Chidi Ezemma and his teammates Took Over the 2008 Red Raider Relays
Cordisco Field, Thiells, NY - Ramapo's Chidi Ezemma knows only one speed: the fastest he can go. Like other athletes, he knows what it is to feel tired, to be in pain, to hurt, but he simply refuses to give up. It is this attitude that earned him the 2008 Red Raider Relays Outstanding Track Performer of the meet award. Ezemma ran the 400 preliminaries on Friday, then came back to run the finals of the 400m which he won in an outstanding time of 48.94. Teammates Shaquan Belizaire, Mike Abelard, Nick Padilla, and Kevin Malivert won the 4x100m relay, breaking their existing meet record in the trials with a time of 42.18 and then again in the finals with a time of 42.13. They (Malivert, Chidi Ezemma, Abelard and Padilla) came back and destroyed another meet record in the 4x200m relay running 1:27.56 nearly two seconds faster than the 1:29.69 their squad set a year ago. As if that wasn't enough, Mike Abelard and Kevin Malivert went 1-2 in the 200m dash final. Abelard ran 21.81 for the win. As if that wasn't enough, Malivert won the 100m dash final in a blazing 10.77. The meet belonged to the Ramapo Gryphons who simply did not acknowledge the fatigue and pain that all athletes feel. Carmel's Kristen Reese is another athlete who hasn't got time for the pain. After winning the 3200m on Friday night, the senior set a new meet record in the 800m run on Saturday running 2:11.99. For her effort, Reese was awarded her second Michelle Dall Memorial Award for Outstanding Track Performer of the relays and becomes only one a few athletes to receive the honor multiple times. In another outstanding night for distance running, Friday night "under the lights" became a wild scene in the boys 5,000m run as many of the area's outstanding runners assembled for one of the only cracks at 5k of the season. Suffern's Evan Flach continued his impressive track and field year by winning the race in 15:38.47 over teammate Mike Pereira. In the track and field equivalent of the hit musical "Stomp", North Rockland's Damien Shannon and his team of percussion experts had the 5,000m and 3200m fields racing to huge personal bests with their steady and rhythmic beats. North Rockland was not be shut out of a top podium spot during the relays though. Red Raider senior and indoor pentathlon All-American Britney Clarke took home top honors in the event with a total of 2,944 points. The Raider 4x8 relay of Lisa Lungaro, Katherine Hekker, Jackie Gamboli and Nicole Landes won their event in 9:37.24 for the other Raider varsity win of the meet. Can't wait to see you in 2009! results continued

Carrying Them a Ton...It Wasn't Until Anchor Carrington Got The Baton that the SMR Record was in Jeopardy.
New Windsor, NY - In his one and only race of the day, Chris Carrington broke the two minute barrier for the first time in his short career in the 800m meter run: relay or open. The junior not only broke the barrier, he shattered it, running 1:56.4 to give the North Rockland Red Raiders a win in the second heat of the Cornwall Green Dragon Relays. As inconspicuous as the relay's effort was, people took notice of Carrington's anchor, which gave the Raiders a narrow second place overall finish behind winner Newburgh and a brand new North Rockland school record of 3:38.6. Sophomore Anthony Congress led the relay off in 53.5, juniors Brendan Landry (24.2) and DaQuan Carter (24.3) ran the middle 200m legs in advance of Carrington's effort. 03/29/08 Maisonette, Carrington Post Wins in Annual North Opener
Like the Wind...Sophomore Anthony Congress Won Three Frosh/Soph Events For the Raiders in their Opener.
Clarkstown, NY - When meet workers at Clarkstown North's facility actually consider wedging the high jump standards under the high jump mats to keep them from blowing over, you know you've arrived at the very beginning of the outdoor track season. For high jumper Alex Maisonette, Mother Nature proved challenge enough, but when the bar he was clearing was falling over because the wind was so strong, many athletes and coaches began thinking of weeks ahead and warmer, calmer weather. But poor weather is as much a part of track and field sometimes as is the starter's pistol, so the Raiders of North Rockland went about their opening day business with their usual alacrity. The Red Raiders recorded three varsity wins. Junior Dasheen Ellis began the 2008 outdoor season with wins in the high and intermediate hurdles. Maisonette recorded his first win of the season with a 5'10" effort in the high jump, while on the track junior Chris Carrington won the 1600m run in a time of 4:39. results continued |
