HALLOWEEN TREAT!

Champion Raiders Go to State Finals For 3rd Straight Year

Martinez Shines; Super Seniors Dunn, Phelan, Rivera Seal Section 1 Class A Title

Fab Frosh; DeJesus Claims Individual JV Title; Grimm Leads NR JV To Team Title

No Tricks...The North Rockland boys used teamwork to earn their 3rd consecutive section title

Westchester Community College - Like the colored leaves left on the trees in November after the other have fallen in October, the North Rockland boys cross country team have refused to drop.  John Martinez and Carlos Jamieson are two runners largely responsible for the surging Red Wave's success.  The juniors placed third and fifth in the Section One Class A Championships giving North Rockland 42 points and the 2003 class A victory.  While Martinez bravely lead the Raiders to victory and a school record for WCC's 3.1 mile course,  the reason the Red Raider harriers have refused to fall are its seniors.  At the core of North Rockland's drive to the championship Joey Dunn (9th), Erik Phelan (11th), and Orlando Rivera (14th) proved a tough trio and sealed the victory for their school.  Sophomore Muhammad Qaisar and frosh Sean Phelan also placed within the top 25 setting course PR's.  The win marks the third year in a row the Raiders have captured the title and the first time a boys team in class A has won the race three years in a row for in at least thirty years.  The #2 ranked Raiders head to Marcus Whitman high school in Rushville, NY to compete for the New York State Class A Cross Country Championship.  results continued

Day 2 WCC - Frosh Chris DeJesus and North Rockland's junior varsity wasn't about to be outdone by their veteran predecessors at day two of the Section One Cross Country Championships.  The second day, which hosts the junior varsity races, saw Chris DeJesus and teammate sophomore Joe Grimm lead North Rockland's team to its second victory with 35 total points.  DeJesus and Grimm ran within three seconds of one another in times of 19:06 and 19:09 respectively.  Freshman Robert Quinlan (5th, 19:34) and Colin Galvin 12th, 19:55), who posted huge improvements, helped the Red Raiders win the team title a day after the varsity won the sectional crown.  results continued

BACK TO BACK!

Jamieson, Rivera Will NR to Rockland County Championship

Twice as Nice...NR's Varsity stepped up to win their second straight Rockland County Title

Bear Mountain - The North Rockland Red Raider boys won their second straight Rockland County cross country championship in dramatic fashion.  Tied 42-42 with Tappan Zee High School with one mile to go on the three mile Bear Mountain course, and trailing in the team scoring to with less than 100m left in the race,  North Rockland senior Orlando Rivera rallied the Raiders passing two runners giving the Raiders a 42 - 44 team victory. Incredibly reliable as a track and field athlete for North Rockland, yet relatively inconspicuous as a cross country runner, Rivera stepped up when it mattered to deliver North Rockland the team championship.  NRXC's race leader, junior Carlos Jamieson, claimed his first ever Rockland County cross individual championship, placing first in a course PR of 15:21.0.  John Martinez placed third in the championship race with a PR of 15:40.8 and teammate Erik Phelan delivered an 11th place for the Raiders with a PR in 16:11.8.  results continued

Raiders Fall In Tiebreaker at Manhattan College

Bronx, NY - All seven Red Raiders set course personal bests in the Ed O'Toole Varsity "E" race at the 2003 Manhattan College Invitational, but the Red Raiders ended up placing 2nd overall in the race.  The Raiders scored 110 pts tying eventual winner Midlothian, VA, but lost a 5th man tiebreaker by place that dropped them to second in the team scoring.  Carlos Jamieson ran 12:56.0 over the classic 2.5 mile course and placed 4th in his race, breaking the important 13 minute barrier by which all Manhattan records are gauged.  Jamieson is only the third NR harrier to break the barrier since Todd Sinclair and Steve Hostomsky broke 13 in the 1970's.  Teammate John Martinez placed 8th in 13:09.8 while Erik Phelan and Joey Dunn both placed within the top 25 good for placement on the NR All-Time Top Ten and Sub 14 List @ Van Cortlandresults continued
