CALIFORNIA KID!

Martinez 14th at Foot Locker Nationals

Senior Captures XC All-American Honors in San Diego!

California Dreamin' - John Martinez turned dream into reality a long way from home in Cali.

Morley Field at Balboa Park, San Diego, CA - North Rockland senior John Martinez placed 14th in the 2004 Footlocker National Finals held in San Diego, Ca.  The 40 man race saw the best high school runners, representing four regions, from across the United States compete for the national crown.  Martinez's time of 15:44 came after the resident of Stony Point, NY blistered the last 1.5 miles of the two-loop course, passing runner after runner to earn cross country All-American honors - the first such honor of his high school career.  Seventh in the Northeast region at the qualifier, Martinez placed second for the regional team in the race which placed third with 73 points. results continued

Van Cortlandt Park, Bronx, NY - Red Raider John Martinez will be running cross country for the first time in both December and in California.  Martinez from Stony Point, NY, continued his late season surge with a seventh place, 15:42.8  finish at the Foot Locker Northeast Regional held on the 5,000m course at Van Cortlandt Park.   Martinez kept pace with the first ten runners, and after the first mile moved up into the top five going back onto Van Cortlandt's infamous back loop.  During the last half mile, Martinez made a strong charge for the pack of four runners, finishers number 2-5, while battling Pennsylvanians Jeff Weiss and Craig Miller over the final hundred meters.  The senior's race earns him a spot on the Northeast team set to compete at the 2004 Foot Locker Cross Country Finals held at Balboa Park in San Diego, California.  Martinez is the first North Rockland and third Rockland County (Romaniuk (Suffern) 2000 and Fennell (Pearl River) 2002) runner to qualify for the meet.  The top eight finishers from four regions across the United States will compete as four teams in the 32 man race. results continued

J-Mart 2nd Overall; 15:57.7 11th Fastest All-Time at Bowdoin

Red Raiders Cap Great Season With 12th Place Team Effort

Well Done!...North Rockland's Red Raiders represented Section One well at the Federations

Bowdoin Park, Wappinger's Falls, NY - North Rockland's John Martinez continued his outstanding championship season cross country racing with a 2nd place, 15:57.7 performance at the 2004 New York State Cross Country Federation Championships.  Martinez, whose time ranks him 11th All-Time in Bowdoin Park history, powered over the hilly 5000m course right behind last week's state meet rival Ryan Sheridan of Walt Whitman.  The Federation Championships, which bring New York's top boys and girls programs, both public and non-public, saw Martinez produce another historical individual cross country race for the Red Raiders.  In addition to Martinez, Todd Sinclair placed 2nd during the individual's race (they ran separate from teams then) in 1979 at the Federation meet held at Saratoga State Park.  Behind Martinez's effort, the determined Red Raiders finished a solid season of championship distance running, placing 12th in a field of 27 teams with 335 points.  results continued

Bowdoin Park, Wappinger's Falls, NY - The NRXC men of 2004 claimed the first ever Section One Class "AA" race with a thrilling 37 point performance over runner-up John-Jay East Fishkill (48 pts.)  Considered the former Section One Class "A" race, which was changed for the first time this season due to re-alignment, the victory marks the first time a boys team has won the modern era (1985 to present) Section One Class "A-AA" title four years in a row.  Leading the way for the Red Raiders were Carlos Jamieson and John Martinez, who after opening a large gap on the rest of the field a mile into the race, gave NR a 1-2 finish.  Both Jamieson and Martinez have been a part of each of the four sectional championships North Rockland has won dating back to their freshman year in 2001.  The Raiders sealed the victory with a complete team effort.  Joe Grimm placed 8th in 17:23, followed by Muhammad Qaisar (14th, 17:53), sophomore Chris DeJesus (15th, 18:02), sophomore Anthony Savoia (19th, 18:15) and senior Jeff Schlesinger (43rd, 19:26).  With the victory, the Red Raiders advance to the New York State Public High School Cross Country Championships held this year at Chenango Valley Golf Course in Section 4, Binghamton, NY.  Following their varsity teammates, the junior varsity team won the JV race for the second year in a row.  The champions were led by frosh Andrew Daniels who placed 2nd, running 18:39 for the 3.1 mile course. results continued
