11/12/05 Savoia 39th in New York State Class Championships Junior 17th Overall Individual, Grimm Closes with 77th in NYS Class AA
Super Start...AJ Savoia Made the Most of Great Positioning at the NY State Championships
Queensbury HS, Queensbury, NY - Red Raider junior AJ Savoia placed 39th overall at the 2005 New York State Public High School Cross Country Championships held on the campus of Queensbury High School. The course, just north of Saratoga Springs, saw a solid frost on the ground as Savoia and fellow state qualifier, teammate Joe Grimm, went for their pre-dawn warm-up. Things quickly heated up as arguably the most anticipated race of the day, the boys class "AA" championships were to be run first at 8:45am. Savoia, who was competing in his second such state championship race in as many years, benefited from a great start and carried it through the rest of the race. Savoia ran 16:23.6 to finish as the top Section One Class "AA" individual and 17th non-team finisher Senior Joseph Grimm ran 17:06.4 good for 77th and was Section One's fourth individual finisher in the race. results continued

Making their Move...North Rockland's Savoia and Grimm have Seen Great Heights this Season
Bear Mt. - Red Raiders AJ Savoia and Joe Grimm placed 4th and 5th in the Section One Class AA Championships to earn individual berth to the NYS Cross Country Championships. Savoia and Grimm ran 16:23.3 and 16:31.5 respectively to earn the 2nd and 3rd individual bids to run in the championship race held on the campus of Queensbury High School in Queensbury, NY. In his top race of the season, sophomore Ryan Creegan ran 16:57 to place 11th. The Red Raiders, however, fell short of their fifth straight sectional championship losing to Arlington 40-52. In his second season of cross country, Savoia is completing a successful year leading the Raiders in three of the last four races. results continued
11/01/05 Figluizzi, Martinez Lead Frosh at Roswell Championships
Clarsktown South HS - Ninth grader Chris Figluizzi took advantage of a great start to place second in the Ray Roswell Memorial Freshman Championships. Figluizzi ran 9:12.8 leading the Red Raiders to a second place team finish with 39 points behind Suffern (22 pts). Robert Martinez also placed well for the Raiders running to a fourth place finish in 9:19. With what had to be the biggest break though for the Raiders on the day, Nick Badstein emerged with a 12th place showing in 9:30.1. results continued
10/27/05 Savoia Wins Rockland County Championship Junior Leads with Grimm From Start, Sets Best Mark Raiders Trumped by Pearl River in Two Point Loss for Team Title, JV 2nd
Bear Mountain - Junior AJ Savoia claimed his first major cross country title winning the 2005 Rockland County championship at Bear Mountain's 3 mile course. Savoia ran 15:58.5 pushed only by teammate Joseph Grimm, who placed second in 16:08.2. Savoia's victory is his first county championship and the third straight individual victory by a North Rockland athlete in the race. In the team scoring, the Raiders tried to make up a large early deficit after 1.5 miles, but fell short in catching Pearl River, who beat the Raiders 45-47. In the boys JV race, junior Chris Tantillo placed second, running a personal best 18:05.1 to lead the team to a second place finish. Tantillo began a day in which fifteen Red Raiders set personal bests for the three mile course. results continued

10/22/05 North Rockland Wins at Section One Coaches Invitational Savoia Leads Raiders to 47 Point Victory in Race Two Figueroa Wins JayVee "A" Race with Strong, Personal Best Performance
Return of the Wave?!...The Red Raider Varsity is Starting to Build Late Season Momentum
Westchester Community College, Valhalla, NY - In a strong showing the North Rockland boys scored 47 points over runner-up Scarsdale (83 pts.) to win the varsity two race at the 2005 Section One Coaches Invitational. Leading the Raiders was AJ Savoia who placed second overall and ran 17:15.3 good for fourth on the NR All-Time Top Ten and Sub 19 @ WCC. Teammate Joseph Grimm ran 17:19.1 to place fourth. Raiders Muhammad Qaisar (10th, 17:47), Ryan Creegan (16th, 18:01) and Christian Mendez (18:26.0) rounded out the scoring top five. Junior David Figueroa won the JV "A" race in a personal 5k best of 18:41.1. results continued
10/19/05 Raiders Capture League 1C Championship
Van Cortlandt Park, Bronx, NY - North Rockland won the 2005 League 1C championship held on the 5,000m course at Van Cortlandt Park. The Red Raiders scored 19 points led by a sweep of the top three spots by Joe Grimm (1st, 17:15) AJ Savoia (2nd, 17:19) and Muhammad Qaisar (3rd, 17:48). Junior Christian Mendez and sophomore Ryan Creegan helped the Raiders place five in the top seven. Junior Colin Galvin placed eleventh giving North Rockland six all-league winners. results continued
10/11/05 North Rockland Defeats Host Rival Suffern 18-37
Suffern High School, Suffern, NY - In a true old-fashioned dual meet with only two schools, the Red Raiders received a strong challenge from host Suffern, yet pulled out the victory on the road 18-37. Leading the way for the Red Raiders were Joe Grimm, AJ Savoia and Muhammad Qaisar who completed the 1-3 sweep of the top spots. Christian Mendez and Ryan Creegan also ran well to give North Rockland five runners in the top seven. The victory marks the fifth straight year the Raiders have completed an undefeated dual meet season. results continued
10/08/05 Red Raiders 6th in Manhattan Invitational "D" Race Savoia, Grimm Star Again for North Rockland; Mendez Breaks Strong Race
Van Cortlandt Park, Bronx, NY - The tandem of AJ Savoia and Joe Grimm continued their streak of solid racing with a 14th and 18th place showing in the Joseph P. Kearny "D" race at the 2005 Manhattan High School Invitational. The duo helped North Rockland score 186 points en route to a 6th place finish. Savoia and Grimm ran 13:42.7 and 13:44.4 respectively, good for 20th and 21st on the NR All-Time Top 10 and Sub 14 @ Van Cortlandt list. Junior Christian Mendez came up big for the Red Raiders as well, running as the number three man. Mendez, who is in his first season of cross country, placed 42nd in time of 14:30. results continued
10/01/05 Savoia Pulls Raider Varsity to 2nd Place at St. Anthony's Creegan, Galvin Step Up and Run Strong in Long Island; Junior Varsity Places 3rd

Sunken Meadow State Park, King's Park, NY - AJ Savoia ran 13:28 to place 8th in the boys' varsity A-2 race and led the Red Raiders to a 2nd place finish at the 2005 St. Anthony's Invitational. Teammate Joe Grimm placed 10th in 13:29. North Rockland (NYS #17) finished behind host St. Anthony's (NYS #9) with 94 points, four points ahead of 3rd place Syosset. Sophomore Ryan Creegan finished in 25th, helping strengthen the Raider pack with a 13:55 effort. Junior Colin Galvin also ran well running 14:01 for the 2.5 mile course. Other Raider finishers included Muhammad Qaisar (23rd, 13:52), Christian Mendez (54th, 14:34) and David Figueroa (86th, 15:22). results continued
9/27/05 Raiders Up Dual Season Record to 2-0
Anthony Wayne State Park - The Red Raiders took eight out of the top ten places and upped their dual meet season record to 2-0 with a victory over Clarkstown South. Joe Grimm, AJ Savoia and Muhammad Qaisar paced the team taking second, third and fouth. Ryan Creegan and Colin Galvin showed considerable improvement running comparable or better than their invitational race last Friday on their home course. results continued
9/23/05 NR Lady Raiders Capture '05 Red Raider Run Race 1 Title Washingtonville Girls and Boys Win Titles, Monroe Boys Victorious in Race 2
Red Raider Fun...The 2005 Lady Raiders, led by senior Jenna Naglieri, showed their Raider Pride
Anthony Wayne State Park - Only five seconds apart, the trio of first year runner Briana Warner, Samantha Calman, and Dayne McLaughlin led a strong charge of North Rockland Red Raiders to kick start the 2005 Red Raider Run. Jessica Varieur, Lula Brown, Brittany Anderson and Kim Jean closed out the race giving NR seven runners in the top 15 and a victory over runner-up Ramsey, NJ by a score of 34-36. In the second closest varsity race of the day, the Washingtonville boys defeated host North Rockland 38-48. Junior Andy Clyne ran 16:25 the fastest varsity boys time of the day to give the Wizards the victory. In the boys varsity race #2, senior Kyle O'Brien ran 16:28, leading the Monroe-Woodbury boys to a 35-47 victory over Middle-Country of Long Island. In the most commanding performance of the meet, the Washingtonville girls scored 26 points to win the girls varsity race #2. Kristin Clark and Carolyn Gates led a Washingtonville 1-2 punch that saw six wizards in the top ten. results continued
9/20/05 Raiders Open Season at 1-0 with Victory Over North
Bowdoin Park, Wappinger's Falls, NY - North Rockland scored a 15-49 victory over Clarkstown North to open their dual meet season. Joe Grimm, Muhammad Qaisar and AJ Savoia broke the 18 minute barrier in their first effort on the 5,000 meter course of the season. Juniors Colin Galvin and Christian Mendez, and sophomore Ryan Creegan all set Bowdoin Park personal bests helping North Rockland sweep the first six places in the contest. results continued
9/17/05 NRXC '05 Kickoff Weekend Underway at Bear Mountain Raiders Open Season with Second Place in "C" Race
Off and Running...A new season and new Raiders kicked off the '05 season at Bear Mt.
Bear Mountain - The North Rockland Red Raiders opened the 2005 cross country season with a strong performance at the Suffern Invitational. The Raiders scored 71 points in the varsity "C" race, twenty points behind winner Warwick Valley. Muhammad Qaisar led the Raider pack with a fourth place, 16:40.9 effort, only ten seconds ahead of teammate AJ Savoia (6th, 16:50.3). Senior Joseph Grimm rounded out the top ten in a time of 17:01.7. Ryan Creegan (22nd, 17:38.9) and Colin Galvin (30th, 17:59.5) completed the Raider scoring. results continued |
