Savoia Cracks Top 40 at NYS Federation Championships
8th Fastest NR All-Time at Bowdoin; Earns Feds Medal
Family Matters...With Strong Support From Family and Friends, AJ Savoia Did Not Run Alone
Bowdoin Park, Wappinger's Falls, NY - Making it as far as you physically can: any successful cross country runner or coach will tell you that is one of the most important elements to any winning season. In the very last official race of the New York State championship season, in the very last race of his high school cross country career he could have qualified for, AJ Savoia did just that. The senior from Haverstraw, NY finished 39th in the New York State Federation Championships held on the familiar grounds of Bowdoin Park. Savoia benefited from an excellent start, running relaxed within the top twenty after the first half mile on a course where getting out is an absolute necessity. By design, Savoia began to surge up the road leading into the second mile as did the pack of runners placed in the mid 30's to 10's. In the winding, hilly second mile that followed, Savoia held on to his position, fighting the entire way through the gate that leads back into the last half mile of the course. He finished in a time of 16:45.7 for the 5,000m course, keeping him in the 8th slot on the NR All-Time Top Ten List @ Bowdoin Park. So as the NRXC cross country season of 2006 is brought to its conclusion and tucked forever away in memory as is always the case for all fall cross country seasons, for all its athletes, we are reminded of things that are constant, not transient. Daily dedication to your training, a positive belief in yourself and the undying support of family and friends will always take you to the very end. AJ Savoia did just that. results continued
