BIG TIME

Hughes Qualifies For NY State Cross Country Championships

Rookie Soph Headed to States; Breaks into Top 10 at Bowdoin

Coming Up "Hughe"...Nick Hughes Posted Nearly a 40 Second Bowdoin Park PR at State Quals

Bowdoin Park, Wappinger's Falls, NY - Beyond the infamous gate of Bowdoin Park lies a half mile stretch of cross country course that has both made and broken the best of harriers.  It is one half mile that essentially tests why the runner is there at that moment.  The athlete gets painfully close to finish line area only to have it cruelly disappear for over a quarter mile before the athlete will even lay eyes on it again.  In that last half mile of Bowdoin Park, sophomore Nick Hughes went from seventh overall to third in the Section One Class AA Cross Country Championships.  As a result of his final surge, Hughes grabbed the second of only five  individual qualifier for the New York State Intersectional Cross Country Championships next week in Norfolk, NY.  Hughes finished behind first individual qualifier and Section champion Julian Sheinbaum of Scarsdale.  Hughes' time of 16:41.3 places him at #6 on the NR All Time Top Ten List at Bowdoin Park.  Chris Carrington also managed to get himself on the list with a strong season ending finish.  The junior ran 17:12.0 to place twelfth overall.  results continued

Bear Mountain, NY - Red Raider Nick Hughes placed second overall at the 2007 Rockland County Championships held at Bear Mountain State Park.  The sophomore ran a personal best 15:50.2 for the three mile course breaking his previous best of 16:07.1 from a week earlier.  The overall winner, Mike Hickey of Pearl River ran 15:31.  Hughes led his team to a second place finish overall with 55 points, fifteen behind team winner Suffern.  In the junior varsity race the Raiders top runner, senior Damien Shannon, ran 17:36.8 for fourth place overall.  results continued

Underclassmen Post All-Time Top Ten Times in NR History at Van Cortlandt

Another Senior Moment...Senior Lou Maio has Provided Stable Veteran Leadership at #3 Man

On This Date in NR History...Two Underclassmen Burst onto the Raider Cross Country Scene

Van Cortlandt Park, Bronx, NY - Typically underclassmen will have to spend their years looking up at those legends ahead of them on the North Rockland All-Time XC Lists and work and wait until their senior year to nudge closer to them.  Names like Sinclair, Hostomsky, Sayre, Dominguez, Ladeau, Acosta, Reyes, Gutierrez, Jamieson, and Martinez are not easy to get next to, let alone supercede.  At the 2007 Manhattan College Invitational held at legendary Van Cortlandt Park, junior Chris Carrington and sophomore Nick Hughes have arrived a little early than most into the NR All-Time Top Ten List.  Carrington blazed a 13:13.3 for the 2.5 mile course to currently reside at #9, while Hughes hammered a 13:16.1 to currently occupy the #10 slot on the list.  To date, the pair are the only underclassmen to hold a top ten spot on any of the NR All-Time Top Ten XC Lists.  Bravo!  results continued
